OUR PEOPLE
A First Impression that lasts At Potomac Parking, our people are the backbone of our business. What we are as a company is reflected through them every day which is why we stress the importance of making and maintaining a consistently good appearance and impression. We are constantly investing and re-investing in our employees and their training Our founders mindset is:
"..if you are pro-active with your employees now, you wont have to be reactive with your customers later! "
That is why all of our employees receive a full day of customer service training. They are taught the highest standards of professional behavior, personal appearance, and customer service. When you visit a Potomac client, you are treated with the respect and attention that a good first impression merits. You will find every employee in full uniform ready for work. Our employees are all versed on the importance of appearance. Our staff spot checks employees at all locations three times daily to ensure that a professional appearance is maintained. Employees also go through a full day of customer service training testing interpersonal skills and mannerisms. The product of their training is the backbone of our business. Employee Diversity At Potomac Parking Services we are committed to the success of minorities and minority businesses as we are minorities ourselves. In accordance with Potomac Parking’s commitments; recruitment, hiring and training are carefully managed to encourage minority and disadvantaged members of the workforce to learn and succeed. Potomac Parking training opportunities and promotion practices are based on demonstrated talent, job knowledge, skill, honesty, integrity, loyalty, trustworthiness, and work ethic. The Potomac Parking team is committed to ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to compete and participate regardless of age, race, religion, color, national origin, handicap, marital status, sexual orientation, political preference, and all other factors.
These goals have created great employee loyalty and longevity. Out of 100 random employees, our average employee retention is 1.3 years. Our most senior employee has worked with us for 12 years and counting. We believe the better you treat your employees, the longer they stay, the more you save in training expenses and new employee risk.
Support for Minority Employees "Contrary to popular beliefs, workplaces that downplay racial and ethnic differences actually make minority employees feel less engaged with their work. Minority employees sense more bias against them in these allegedly colorblind settings." This statement was made after an exhaustive study by Victoria Plaut, an assistant professor of psychology in UGA's Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the study's lead author. Our company ownership is 100% minority. We do not however believe that hiring all minorities leads to a success socially. We believe the key to a successful workplace is to strengthen minorities, but also to promote diversity. Diversity is more than a goal to us – it’s a real part of the way we do business. At Potomac Parking, we’re committed to providing all of our employees with respect, training and opportunities to succeed. We’re also committed to serving new markets and being a real part of our communities. To accomplish these goals, we need a team that’s culturally aware and we must be an organization that’s culturally competent. We agree with the statement in the study that colorblindness can hurt employees and their sense of self which in turn hurts the company, however we do believe all in our society have good ideas and products to contribute, and all have equal value regardless of minority status. Support for Minority and Women Owned Businesses As stated before, our company ownership is 100% minority, so we know the challenges involved when trying to make the right connections or compete with large monopolistic organizations. We’ve been there… and sometimes are still there. Our goal for establishing a Minority Vendor Program (MVP) is to aid in the development of Minority and Women Owned Businesses (WMBE) and Disadvantage Business Enterprises (DBE) so they are able to compete with other well-established companies. Potomac Parking strongly supports a policy of increasing purchases from MWBE and DBE businesses by establishing long-term mutually profitable relationships.
